Welcome to the information page for the Expat Choir Dutch songs!
Are you an expat looking for a unique and enjoyable way to immerse yourself in Dutch culture? Look no further! Our choir is exclusively for expats, providing a supportive environment for learning Dutch through the power of music.
Whether you’re a seasoned singer or a complete beginner, this choir is for you. Fluency in Dutch is not required, as all our lessons are conducted in English. Our repertoire consists solely of Dutch songs, carefully selected to help improve your pronunciation and understanding of the language.
Repertoire: Our primary focus is on Dutch pop songs, encompassing both old classics and contemporary hits. We strive to choose songs that resonate with everyone and create an enjoyable musical experience. While we do not sing children’s songs, we aim to include a diverse range of music that represents the richness of Dutch culture. Examples of songs we sing include:
Rehearsals: Our weekly rehearsals take place on Mondays from 20:00 to 21:30 at the Cultureel Centrum, Prinses Marijkelaan 4, 2252 HH, Voorschoten. During these sessions, our experienced conductor will guide you through the pronunciation of the lyrics. You will also receive an English translation of the song, along with insightful background information to deepen your appreciation of Dutch expressions and words.
Commitment and Level: The choir is suitable for both beginners and advanced singers. No auditions are required to join, meaning everyone is welcome regardless of their singing experience. We expect members to regularly attend rehearsals and performances, but we also understand that expats may face unforeseen circumstances. Rehearsing the songs is an integral part of our sessions. We work on refining our singing voices and aim to develop multiple harmonies within the choir. Rest assured, our patient and supportive environment ensures that everyone can progress at their own pace.
Costs: There are membership fees associated with joining the choir. The monthly fee is € 25,-. These fees cover the cost of renting the rehearsal space, the conductor, and other organizational expenses.
Performances and Events: “The Dutchables” regularly performs at various events in the region. This gives members the opportunity to showcase their singing skills and participate in the local community. Additionally, the choir organizes social activities to strengthen the bond between members and create a sense of community.
Atmosphere and Community: The choir is known for its warm and close-knit community. New members are welcomed with open arms, and there is always room for social interaction and friendship. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive, contributing to a positive experience for all members.
